Testing for Anode Quality: Varying Factors in the Paste Plant Using an Advanced Pilot Scale Facility
摘要
Testing of anodesAnode for Al-metal production is addressed on three counts: 1, equipment and scale; 2, which paste production factors dominate anode qualityAnode quality propertyProperties levels; 3, what factors must be controlled. Re 2 and 3, from Hydro testing experience, for a given aggregateAggregates and pitch the most critical propertiesProperties to control are the combined pitch level and paste temperature through mixing. As regards equipment and scale, 1, full scale testing is preferable, however, the risk, practical issues and priorities in operations limit how far this type of test can go. So, focus is on pilot scale qualityQuality testing and the first stage is to establish a baseline of anodeAnode propertiesProperties relative to major production factors. Hydro AnodeAnode Data, HAD, is used for this. The paper will discuss production factors and setting up a pilot scale testing system that realistically simulates a full-scale paste plant. Examples are given from studies aimed at controlling factors and showing their effects on the anode qualityAnode quality.
