Influence of Selective Crushing and Particle Shape of Large Aggregate Particles on Bulk Density
摘要
The bulk densityBulk density of petroleum cokePetroleum coke used for anodeAnode manufacture is important to aluminum smeltersAluminum smelter as it generally relates to anodeAnode baked density. Coke bulk densityBulk density has been extensively studied, including previous work by BP, that showed how particle shapeParticle shape is modified by different crushers, and that changes in shape influenced coke bulk densityBulk density. Variation in Vibrated Bulk Density (VBDVibrated Bulk Density (VBD)) was of similar magnitude as porosity, and that VBDVibrated Bulk Density (VBD) for blends of shaft and non-shaft calcined cokes could be improved by jaw crushing the shaft coke in the blend. However, CarbonCarbon Plant coarse aggregateAggregates contains much larger particles than in these studies that occupy a significant volume percentage of an anodeAnode. A laboratory study was conducted to see if similar relationships between crushing technique, shape, and bulk densityBulk density exists for larger particles with the goal of understanding if anodeAnode bake density can be increased through selective crushing of large particles.
