Communication System Through Eye Gestures for Patients with Cerebral Palsy and/or Amyotrophic Lateral sclerosis
摘要
Motor disability represents the most prevalent condition among the disabled population in the country, affecting millions of people. This pathology usually entails a significant loss of independence, since in many cases it implies total immobility and even the impossibility of communicating verbally. The development of alternative communication systems becomes essential to improve the quality of life of those who suffer from it. Our system offers an efficient and functional alternative that allows users to re-establish communication with their environment. Taking advantage of the fact that eye movement is usually preserved even in the most severe cases of motor disability, the solution uses gaze tracking as the main means of interaction. The interface, based on pictograms, provides simple and attractive visual tools that facilitate the expression of basic needs and emotions. This proposal is relevant, since people with motor disabilities face major barriers to social interaction. Providing them with a tool that allows them to communicate autonomously not only promotes their integration but also contributes significantly to improving their well-being and quality of life.
