Golden Proportion Applied to Determine the Dental Crowding
摘要
Throughout history, the golden ratio has been used in a variety of fields, from architecture, art, and also as a basis in this work for the characterization of a biological parameter such as dental crowding. The main objective of this work is to propose a mathematical model that describes the behavior of dental crowding based on clinical data and complying with the properties of the golden ratio. The proportional width of the canines, molars, and incisors, and by applying basic mathematics, considering in addition the properties of the golden ratio, the model was obtained. The model proposed to determine crowding is a function of the mesiodistal width, the golden ratio, as well as the proportional width of the canines and molars. This model represents a first approximation, since no similar models have been reported, so this model defines the basis for quantifying and diagnosing the crowding through mathematical modeling.
