In this essay, we propose that the concept of region enables reflection on political obligations beyond state borders. We start by analytically exploring the normative principles underpinning regionalism from a theoretical perspective. Our ambition is to outline the foundations of why political authorities belonging to the same geographical region ought to enter into collaboration as a matter of justice in ways that can supplement, rather than replace, existing principles of justice that are often either domestic or global.
