International Relations (IR) has been a discipline that has gradually developed its own theoretical framework, separating it from political science and becoming recognised as a social science in itself. Among its first debates, realism and liberalism can be found, which have contributed a lot to international thought and to different areas of it, such as the establishment of peace and the possibilities of cooperation and integration, among others. What should be mentioned is that these paradigms are very rationalist in their way of theorising their postulates, and with the arrival of constructivism and critical theories, this type of reasoning has been debated in depth, showing that its postulates are not always the most appropriate to explain international reality.
