Essay 37: Potential and Challenges to Comparative Regionalism from a Global South Perspective
摘要
This essay explores the relevance and feasibility of comparative research on regionalism, highlighting its potential to advance both theoretical and empirical understandings of regional dynamics. We argue that comparative regionalism, with its focus on the agency of regional actors, the importance of autonomy, and the centrality of context and unique regional trajectories, offers a valuable framework that can engage with and incorporate theoretical insights from the EU and other area studies. In doing so, it challenges and transcends the Eurocentric foundations of this field. Such an approach is crucial for developing conceptual tools and comparative methodologies that account for the diverse regional experiences, particularly in the Global South.
