Essay 28: The Fading Shadow of the Neo–Functional Theoretical Approach to Regionalism: Evidence from European and African Regionalism
摘要
Most scholars use the terms regional cooperation and regional integration interchangeably due to their close relationship. The latter is more issue–specific than the former and is a far weaker and looser type of cooperation among sovereign governments. This is because regional cooperation does not necessitate the establishment of supranational organisations, since participating states maintain a significant amount of their political sovereignty and can easily choose to withdraw from the agreement.
