The present chapter explores the multifaceted concept of the blue economy and its significance for global sustainable development. It begins by defining the blue economy and tracing the inception and objectives of the G20, emphasizing its role in fostering economic growth and stability among member nations. The chapter analyzes quarterly real GDP growth trends across G20 countries, highlighting economic resilience and vulnerabilities. It assesses the performance of G20 nations in advancing the objectives of Sustainable Development Goal 14, focusing on marine conservation and sustainable use of ocean resources. Furthermore, the chapter reviews G20 strategies aimed at cultivating a sustainable and resilient blue economy, including the adoption of the Chennai High-Level Principles. These strategies collectively aim to balance economic opportunities with environmental stewardship, ensuring the health of ocean ecosystems while promoting inclusive growth for present and future generations.
