Aligning Business Models with the UN Sustainable Development Goals through the Blue Economy

As time goes on, the Blue Economy is seen more often as a way to promote sustainable development, providing a unique chance for organizations to connect their models with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This chapter looks at ways in which businesses can support economic growth and solve social and environmental problems by making use of the Blue Economy’s principles, including managing freshwater and marine systems. Based on talks about the importance of the Blue Economy for reaching certain SDGs (null SDG12, Responsible Consumption and Production; SDG8, Decent Work and Economic Growth; and SDG114, Life Below Water). It also studies unusual business methods that target ecotourism, renewable fisheries, marine conservation and clean ocean energy and how they may help sustain the world while being profitable. Within the context of eco-management, the chapter approaches discuss alternatives and business ideas by way of interesting case studies and best practices. It further looks at problems caused by limited funding, regulations and difficulties among stakeholders and advises company leaders and lawmakers on actions that can advance Blue Economy growth. Furthermore, the chapter shows how the sector can redesign its value proposition to support the SDGs and maintain sustainability by using aquatic resources for years to come.
