This book concludes with a brief history of gonioscopy. It is a history both glorious and sad. It is glorious in that it demonstrates the worldwide interest in wanting to understand the appearance and functioning of a relatively inaccessible part of the eye, for the purpose of being able to help preserve one of the five senses, vision. It is sad in that the remarkable usefulness of gonioscopy when competently performed is still not understood, and presently utilized grading methods are seriously inadequate.
