Gonioscopic evaluation is a critical examination method in preparation for glaucoma filtering surgery and identifying the cause of postoperative problems. Understanding a patient’s anterior chamber angle anatomy preoperatively may help the surgeon tailor a surgical approach that affords the patient the best chance of long-term surgical success. Postoperatively, gonioscopy is necessary to evaluate the surgical aqueous outflow tract and may help identify the source of surgical failure or complication.
