Life-Cycle Assessment of Agro-textiles
摘要
Agro-textile is one of the very important sectors among the 12 sectors of technical textiles, especially for economies like India. India’s economy is primarily based on agriculture. Agro-textile serves as an important part to improve the productivity of agricultural land. But today, only productivity does not matter if it is not serving the purpose of sustainability also. Environmental implications. It is necessary to check on use and disposal also after production, and for this, LCA plays an important role. This chapter introduces Life-Cycle Assessment (LCA) as a strong and science-backed methodology for measuring the ecological effects of agro-textiles throughout their complete life span. The environmental impacts of agro-textiles across their entire life cycle—from the extraction of raw materials and manufacturing to application and end-of-life management. This chapter mainly provides the details of the standardized LCA framework given by ISO 14040 and 14,044. Furthermore, the chapter presents a series of case studies drawn from real-world applications, demonstrating how LCA has been applied to evaluate products such as mulch films, shade nets, and crop covers. By integrating various methodologies and empirical data, this chapter seeks to enhance the comprehension of agro-textiles’ environmental impact and promote the use of more sustainable materials and practices within the agricultural textile sector.
