On the Fire Risk of Historical Buildings in Minas Gerais- Brazil
摘要
This article presents an analysis of fire risk in historic buildings in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, based on the local fire safety regulations. Parameters that can balance the demands of prevention and fire safety, combined with the conscious maintenance of elements of historical and artistic value, the prevention criteria currently supported in the state were analyzed, from the perspective of the specificities of each building. A review of methods of fire protection in buildings with heritage value was carried out, and the intervening factors were raised to evaluate strategies for protecting buildings subjected in case of fire. Two buildings have been evaluated, Church of “Nossa Senhora do Carmo” and “Casa da Câmara”, both in Mariana. The fire risk was evaluated by three methods: Gretener Method, Global Fire Risk Method and ARICA Method, and the characteristics of each compared. Regulations in force in the State of Minas Gerais have been also analyzed, checking the protection systems for the two buildings and potential risks that can be extended to other historic buildings. In view of the deficiencies found, alternative fire protection systems are presented, verifying their viability and compliance with the requirements of historic buildings, even given the difficulty of carrying out these without interventions in the heritage, whether physical or contextual.
