Creative actions are a crucial aspect of sports performance. But what enables athletes to perform creative actions in their sport? In this chapter, we will gain an overview of distinct theoretical approaches to address this question, review recent empirical findings, and derive relevant practical implications for assessing and training creativity in sports. Drawing on current functional-level theories of sensorimotor behaviour and a relational understanding of creativity, the core argument of this chapter is that performing actions that are both effective and unconventional within a socio-cultural context—thus recognized as creative—fundamentally depends on an athlete’s repertoire of sensorimotor skills.

摘要
