Introduction: Community Action Research on Greek Language Education in Canada
摘要
This volume, Advancing Greek Heritage Language Education in Canada: The Hellenic Relay—A Community Action Study, presents the findings of a two-year community-engaged research project supported by the Hellenic Heritage Foundation (HHF). Conceived as both a scholarly inquiry and a mobilizing initiative, the Hellenic Relay (Ελληνική Σκυτάλη) takes its name from the metaphor of the relay race: like the passing of a baton, the transmission of language and culture requires intergenerational cooperation, commitment, and shared responsibility. The introduction to the volume presents the basic principles of the research project Hellenic Relay and analyses challenges and perspectives in the field of Greek language education. While the study focuses on the acquisition and instruction of Greek as a heritage language in Canada, it attempts to provide useful methodological tools for reflection regarding status of heritage languages in a globalized context.
