“Capoeira, Ela Dá Mas Ela Cobra”: A Foreign Researcher-Practitioner Reflects on her Ethical Responsibilities to Capoeira Angola
摘要
This chapter addresses some of the more hidden aspects of being a foreign researcher-practitioner of capoeira Angola in Brazil. The aim is twofold: to show how instances of conflict or tension can illuminate deeper ethical and political problems and to reveal how capoeira generates tools and concepts for grappling with these problems. Ultimately, I propose that the concept of compromisso, as taught by Mestre Cláudio in his group, the Angoleiros do Sertão, can orient relational ethics within and beyond capoeira practice.
