The development of a character’s design is a creative process that demands multiple iterations before a result is reached, and a fundamental step in this process is the elaboration of a mood board. Generative AI has diverse documented applications in the context of the entertainment industry, its use in character creation included. However, one of the challenges in using this technology is the inconsistency in terms of quality of the generated images, in terms of variety in its iterations and in terms of adherence to the prompt. To verify its applicability, this study proposes the integration of generative AI tools into the elaboration of the mood board for the creation of character designs. The focus of this research was to establish a metric that evaluates if the images generated by AIs are adequate to be incorporated into the character design development pipeline.
