The Contribution of Immersive, Virtual Reality-Based Teaching in Language Learning: A Review
摘要
Virtual reality's (VR) meteoric rise has piqued the curiosity of academics and teachers interested in its applications in the classroom. Many studies have evaluated and amalgamate the data on VR’s potential in the classroom. But there hasn’t been a current study of VR's effects on a narrow academic discipline like language instruction. Therefore, the scope of academic writing on virtual reality (VR) for language education is mapped out in this work. This paper draws on a large body of literature from the disciplines of language learning with computers and educational technology published between 2012 and 2022 to examine, develop, and debate the following issues.: pros and cons of using VR as an educational tool in the language classroom, technologies used, language learning settings, and duration of educational activities, and future research directions regarding the education implications of VR. While virtual reality (VR) is a useful tool for language instructors, this study argues that it nevertheless comes with both technological and pedagogical hurdles. The study finishes with a discussion of the findings and their implications for further study and practise.
