Remote-Access Robotic and Endoscopic Thyroidectomy
摘要
Various remote-access thyroidectomy has developed during the past decades to hide neck scarring. Of various approaches, the gasless transaxillary, bilateral axillo-breast, gasless retroauricular, and vestibular approaches employing either endoscopy or a surgical robot are the most widely adopted methods in current practice. Remote-access robotic and endoscopic thyroidectomy in the hands of an experienced surgeon is a safe alternative to the conventional approach. The primary advantage of remote-access thyroidectomy is superior cosmesis. The surgical outcomes and complication rates of the remote-access approach are similar to the outcomes of traditional thyroidectomy. Oncologic outcomes are similar or at least not inferior, and postoperative voice and swallowing outcomes are similar or superior. Surgeons must fully understand the advantages and limitations of various remote-access techniques. To ensure optimal outcomes, thorough training and preparation are imperative.
