The goal of the current study is to assess the effectiveness of integrating artificial intelligence (AI) with 360-degree virtual reality (VR360) technology for the purposes of teaching English for tourism students. In detail, the study is aimed at examining whether the implementation of the two technologies can enhance learners’ ability to learn English for specific purposes, improve language ability, enhance interactivity, and enhance student motivation. The research approach employed is an experimental study between two student groups: one group using conventional teaching and one group utilizing AI and VR360 technology. Both groups of students went through an 8-week English for tourism study program and underwent language skill tests, motivation questionnaires, and observation of their class participation in learning activities. Major findings of the study reveal that the group utilizing AI and VR360 exhibited higher gains in language ability, with 72% of students scoring above 80 for listening as well as speaking, as compared to 50% for the control group. Again, the inclusion of AI and VR360 had an 88% participation rate for 360-degree immersive lessons, much higher than the 62% for the control group. The study conclusion is that the implementation of AI and VR360 can yield significant benefits for teaching English for tourism students, particularly for enhancing ability of using language in context as well as students’ interactivity. The prospect of implementing this technology for education, especially for specialized fields such as tourism, is vast for developing teaching excellence from its application.

摘要
