In the first chapter, we will describe the introduction to the new book. The five main subjects that will be described are as follows: The first item in the list describes the concept of our monitoring approach. The second item on the list describes the concept of oxygen homeostasis in the body. The third and fourth items describe the discovery of oxygen and the mitochondrion. The last item describes the foundation of our knowledge regarding the activity of the mitochondria in vivo and the contribution of the late Prof. Britton Chance to our current understanding of the function of the mitochondria in vitro and, more importantly, under in vivo conditions.
