For many, becoming a program director is a career aspiration. It is often a role that has been a career goal for many years, even since residency. Being named as a program director is an honor and a recognition by departmental leadership that one has the abilities for success. It is also a time to inventory what is required for that success, to acknowledge skills that one has, to identify areas for growth and resources needed, and to begin to think about opportunities for additional leadership and service.
