This paper explores the integration of ChatGPT into teaching introductory coding courses, specifically focusing on a Python course at the college level. It discusses the potential of AI-powered tools like ChatGPT to revolutionize the learning experience by providing interactive, personalized, and immediate support to students. The paper outlines five types of prompts where ChatGPT can be particularly beneficial: coding exercises with problem statements and feedback, additional explanations and clarifications on coding concepts, personalized learning experiences with adapted challenges, and project guidance. It highlights the advantages of using ChatGPT and addresses potential challenges in integrating ChatGPT.
