This chapter approaches the concept of smart government. It justifies the importance of this term; it defines and explores it and tries to distinguish it from the smart city and the smart city government. Moreover, it lists and analyzes the key components of smart government, including data-driven governance and community engagement. Finally, it explains how co-production and co-decision-making can enhance the quality and the transparency of government, especially in the era of smart cities where emerging technologies, data and AI transform dramatically the way that governments work and offer services to their communities.
