This paper explores the extent of literature on digitalisation of small enterprises and analysing its impact towards socio-economic landscape in rural areas of South Africa. There are some challenges which are experienced by the rural Small Enterprises as the attempt to achieve timely stock demands which lead to potential revenue loss and operational inefficiencies due to manual Stock Ordering Systems. The rationale behind this study is to develop a comprehension about the influence of digitalisation of small enterprises towards socio-economic landscape. This study has adopted the use of systematic literature review approach is carried out with the rationale to explore digitalisation of small enterprise and its impacts towards socio-economic landscape. The identified 617 articles from Scopus, Science Direct and Google Scholar database which were published during 2014–2024 period selected. The study found that the identification, and screening processes, total of 17 articles were included for this review, which conformed to the search criteria specified. The review findings reveal that digitalisation brought a paradigm shift in the socio-economic status quo within the small enterprises sector. The narrowed insights about socio-economic impacts of digitalisation in the context of Small Enterprises, particularly, in rural areas, other sectors of our economy are harvesting the potential benefits inherent in digital technologies. Thus, the creation of enabling environment through high level strategies and policy frameworks for digital technologies performance monitoring and evaluation prior and post adoption and use.
