Empowering Educators: A Framework for Maintaining Course Integrity in the Age of Artificial Intelligence

As Artificial Intelligence (AI) becomes more popular and more students adopt these technologies into their studies, educators must face new challenges. These tools are handy but have many limitations and bring with them several ethical concerns, especially when it comes to the topic of academic and course integrity. Research into these tools, their role in higher education, their limitations, ethical concerns, and how they are used and viewed by students and educators is studied. From these studies, a flexible framework was developed that can be used to empower educators and safeguard academic integrity in a world rich with AI. This framework consists of four (4) parts: integration, AI education, AI resistant assignments, and AI detection and monitoring. This framework should help create an environment rich with academic integrity that encourages students to explore AI tools without worry.
