A Cartography of Portuguese Feminisms: Memory as Resistance, Mapping as Mobilisation
摘要
This paper introduces an interactive digital map designed to preserve and make visible feminist movements in Portugal, across both historical and contemporary contexts. While digital platforms offer unprecedented opportunities for feminist activism and visibility, they also pose significant limitations to long-term archiving and the structured representation of feminist histories due to factors such as corporate governance, algorithmic biases, impermanence, and the constraints of social media. Despite their importance for mobilisation, these platforms lack the necessary features to trace feminist historiography. Developed within the framework of the FEMglocal research project, this map addresses the absence of a unified, interactive and participatory digital resource for Portuguese feminist history. A human-centred design methodology guided the development of the platform design, ensuring accessibility, inclusivity, and user engagement. This process involved user research, co-design activities with diverse stakeholders (students, journalists, activists), and iterative prototyping supported by usability testing.
