Impact of Climate Change on Plant Pathogens, Disease and Food Security
摘要
Climate change has a serious effect on plant health by modifying the relationship between crops and pathogens, compromising world food security. Rising temperature, shifts in precipitation and humidity, increase CO₂ levels, and extreme weather events enhance the rate of spread, survival, and virulence of plant pathogens. These changes promote the emergence and re-emergence of diseases, lower crop yields, and enhance post-harvest losses. Pathogens easily adapt to novel climates, host crops, and management practices, whereas host tolerance and resistance mechanism and frequently compromised. Integrated plant health management, predictive modeling, and sustainable farming practices are the keys to managing disease risks. In the absence of effective adaptation measures, climate-driven plant diseases will continue to pose threats to food production, especially in exposed areas.
