Value Statements of CEE Companies and Diversity Challenges
摘要
In CEE countries proactive approaches to diversity management are increasingly important. CEE firms can benefit from diverse teams that enhance understanding of global market opportunities. We examine value statements of firms in Finland, Estonia, Poland, and the USA to determine the extent to which firms publicly promote aspirational values of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Results indicate that across four nations, DEI values are included in 52% of the Finnish value statements in our sample, 27% and 25% of the Estonian and Polish sample, respectively. This compares to 57% in US sample. Inclusion was the primary value category found in the corporate value statements. Only 13% of US and 2% of Polish firms included diversity-related value words in their corporate value statements, while 7% of Finish, 2% of Polish, 8% of US firms included equity-related value words. This chapter explores differences in political history, economic policy, and cultural values that may explain the different usage and the selection of values related to diversity.
