Strategic Environmental Assessment and Prospects for a Sustainable University in the Western Region of Para
摘要
The theme of sustainable universities has been researched in several countries and their sustainability policies require strategic analysis using tools with great potential for technical-scientific exploration, such as Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA). In this case study, the objective is to verify and analyze the strategic sustainable role of the largest federal public university in the western region of Para, in the Brazilian Amazon, through the methodological approach of SEA applied to the university’s existing institutional sustainability plan. Among the SEA support techniques used are scenario building, structural analysis/key variable interaction matrix. The results obtained include the prospective sustainability scenario for the university; the main key variables of current influence and direct dependence on the plan and those in potential; the relevant, influential, and dependent social actors identified and related to each other and to the plan’s projects. Thus, the elements identified through the SEA and analyzed in the results make up the strategic sustainability analysis for Ufopa and can serve stakeholders, the academic community, and the external public, as inputs for decision-making processes, and good governance. In short, the tested premise is that the SEA approach to the university’s sustainability plan focuses on the social, economic, environmental, and governance aspects, prioritizing the integration and harmony between them.
