The development of actions aimed at sustainability within Brazilian Higher Education Institutions (IES) has been highlighted recently, a fact that can be seen from the results of research in different fields of knowledge related to these actions. In this context, this paper aims to identify and reflect on the institution’s performance from the set of actions developed in teaching, research and extension over the last four years, which are directly related to environmental and sustainability issues at the Federal University of Alfenas—UNIFAL-MG, basing this discussion on the data recorded by the institution in the Green Metric ranking, in addition to recognizing the main challenges and limitations to these dimensions, about the relationship with sustainability, based on the results presented. Based on a survey carried out by the institutional management, taking into account all the university’s academic units, it was possible to obtain information about the subjects offered in graduate and undergraduate teaching, the scientific publications made in research, the projects and programs developed in the field of extension, as well as the events open to the public, which were directly related to sustainability. The results of the survey revealed sectors that have seen an increase in actions, such as publications in the research dimension and extension achievements aimed at activities involving sustainability and environmental education. The teaching dimension presented potential for further development of actions. The set of results can contribute to institutional management to reflect, together with the other members of the university, on future actions to expand the development of actions related to sustainability in the institution. This study also highlights the role of universities in promoting sustainability, highlighting that, although there are institutional advances at UNIFAL-MG regarding the topic, the effective integration of sustainability still demands more articulated and comprehensive efforts at this institution.

摘要
