Federal Institutes and Regional Sustainable Development: Perspectives on Local Productive Arrangements in Minas Gerais
摘要
Local Productive Arrangements (LPAs) consist of companies within the same region that share interdependence, territoriality, and productive specializations. Governance and interaction among stakeholders, such as businesses and educational institutions, can drive endogenous innovation, competitiveness, and sustainable local development. The effectiveness of LPAs depends on coordination and learning among these actors, highlighting the essential role of educational and research institutions. In this context, Federal Institutes (FIs) represent a key public policy for strengthening collective assets and generating positive externalities that benefit LPAs. Based on a qualitative, descriptive, and documentary approach, this study analyzes the alignment of technical, technological, undergraduate, and postgraduate courses offered by three FIs in Minas Gerais with the demands of 36 regional LPAs. The results indicate a strong and direct relationship between the courses offered and local productive needs, demonstrating their contribution to regional sustainable development, in line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) No. 9, particularly its target 9.5.
