Contemporary Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) play an essential role as agents of social transformation in their territories, contributing to the training of professionals and citizens who are aware of their socio-cultural and environmental responsibilities. This study aims to describe the practices developed by HEIs in relation to gender equity and their connection with the 2030 Agenda. Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5 emphasises Gender Equality and is a current issue of extreme relevance in Brazil, where research indicates high rates of psychological, sexual and physical violence against women, as well as inequalities in the labour market, political representation and leadership positions. The methodological design of the research is qualitative, analytical and descriptive. The results emphasise that the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs have driven the integration of actions aimed at sustainable development in the substantive functions of teaching, research and extension in the spheres of governance and management of the institutions. The results show how the three HEIs studied are implementing actions in line with the goals of SDG 5. Among the actions identified are: educational campaigns, welcoming programmes, listening tools and institutional policies to prevent violence. It is considered that by describing good practices, this study helps to encourage other HEIs to promote similar actions, thus expanding the fight against discrimination and violence against women in Brazilian HEIs. The results reflect the reality of the HEIs analyzed, and it is suggested that future research expand the scope of analysis and assess the effectiveness of the actions undertaken.
