This chapter explores how care may be understood in relation to form or the creation of ‘careful art’. It extends upon theories of care to reconceptualise teaching artistry and arts-based inquiry as gift-giving, in that it establishes relations of asymmetrical reciprocity [Young, Intersecting voices: Dilemmas of gender, political philosophy, and policy. Princeton University Press (1997). https://doi.org/10.1515/9780691216355 ] between and among participants, Teaching Artists and researchers. In research-based theatre, an ethnodrama is typically utilised to share research findings with internal and external audiences. Instead, in this research the ethnodrama written by the Teaching Artist-researcher was reconceived of as a gift and became one part of a meaningful temporal experience shared with participants.
