Experience-Oriented Design of Behavioral Intervention Technologies: Empowering Transformation and Well-Being for Bipolar II Disorder Patients
摘要
This study explores the experience-oriented design of behavioral intervention technologies (BITs) aimed at enhancing both the well-being and transformative intervention of patients with Bipolar II Disorder, characterized by severe depressive episodes that disrupt daily functioning and interpersonal relationships. Current BITs for bipolar disorder primarily focus on self-monitoring and self-tracking to enhance self-awareness and therapeutic outcomes. In contrast, we propose an experience-oriented approach that integrates patients’ intrinsic motivations with therapeutic intervention strategies and the recovery model for bipolar disorder. We present two design concepts: FollowME and myEmotionBank, each addressing a specific intervention goal and corresponding intrinsic needs. FollowME leverages interpersonal support to overcome motivational barriers to outdoor activities, promoting collaboration between patients and their close relationships. MyEmotionBank fosters self-support through reflective practices, enabling patients to record and receive supportive messages during depressive episodes. Finally, we reflect on our design approach, discussing the integration of experience-oriented design with BITs. We propose a basic evaluation plan, highlight limitations, and outline directions for future work.
