This chapter takes up the topic of eschatology and the imaginaries of the apocalypse to examine narratives of the artificial intelligence (AI) apocalypse. It navigates how fears of AI have found their way into the collective imagination alongside research on the extinction threats that AI might pose to humanity. The text then follows the framing of the four horsemen conquest, conflict, famine, and death to examine the risks posed by AI both in reality and in the imagination. The chapter then moves into a discussion of un-imaginaries of the apocalypse. In these areas, human comprehension and perspective hit the inbuilt limitations for understanding emerging technologies like AI and threats to human existence. The chapter concludes with a reflection on the necessity of peace work in building and maintaining the foundations for long-term human survival.
