Conflict Analysis as Apocalyptic Prophecies: Unpacking the Politics and Power of Conflict Narratives in Peacemaking
摘要
Conflict analysis has been an indispensable tool in planning and implementing peacebuilding programs. While current research has examined how one conflict frame can affect how peacebuilding actors address the conflict, varying understanding of the same conflict can further fuel divisions and conflicting efforts. By comparing conflict analysis as apocalyptic prophecies, which focus on different sources of conflict, processes of unraveling, value-systems and solutions for peace or salvation, this chapter aims to unpack the animating power of conflict analysis and its multi plurality. The chapter illustrates this argument in the mediation of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) in South Sudan from 2013 to 2015.
