The study aims to identify a suitable and replicable tool for measuring the impact of culture on sustainable development and, in particular, on women’s empowerment, given: (i) the centrality of Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG5) regarding gender equality within the SDGs set out in the 2030 Agenda; (ii) the fact that the literature attributes to art and culture the role of vehicles of expression and tools for gender empowerment and for the promotion of inclusive values that overcome traditional inequalities. By means of a case study concerning a leading Italian airport company, this paper intends to illustrate what activities have been put in place in relation to the combination of culture and women’s empowerment through the KPIs proposed by UNESCO (UNESCO, 2019) in the Culture 2030 Report. As far as the authors are aware, although the literature has extensively debated the issue of the difficulties of measuring the impact of culture on sustainable development, there are no studies that highlight a way of measuring this impact. On the other hand, as far as is known, the company examined in the case study was the first to have employed the UNESCO framework to a corporate reality. The authors believe that the findings of the study can provide insights for companies that can replicate the case study model to their own business realities. At the same time, the work can provide valuable food for thought for academics and practitioners on the development of suitable KPIs for measuring cultural impact on sustainable development, including women’s empowerment.

摘要
