IoT-Driven Smart Tourism Technologies and Its Impact on Tourist Experiences: A Case Study of Itanagar Smart City
摘要
The rapid advancement of the Internet of Things (IoT) and intelligent systems has transformed tourism experiences, enabling data-driven personalization, automation, and real-time decision-making. This study explores the impact of IoT-driven “Smart Tourism Technologies” (STTs) in enhancing “Memorable Tourist Experiences” (MTEs) within Itanagar Smart City, Arunachal Pradesh, India, a destination known for its MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism. The study examines key IoT-enabled tourism solutions, including real-time navigation, AI-driven recommendations, smart hotel automation, and digital twin applications, and their influence on tourist satisfaction and experience memorability. A survey-based approach was employed, collecting data from 178 domestic tourists staying in hotels, resorts, and homestays through a structured questionnaire. The data was analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The findings indicate that most IoT-enabled STT attributes significantly influence MTEs, except for the informativeness factor, which was found to have no significant impact. These results provide new insights into the role of IoT in tourism experience design, offering both theoretical and practical implications. From a technological lens, the study highlights the potential of smart sensors, AI-driven analytics, and cyber-physical systems in enhancing tourist engagement. Additionally, the findings present actionable recommendations for policymakers, destination managers, and system developers to optimize IoT applications in tourism, ensuring seamless connectivity, personalized experiences, and enhanced service automation. By strategically adopting IoT-based solutions, destinations like Itanagar Smart City can improve their competitiveness, enhance visitor satisfaction, and contribute to sustainable smart tourism development.
