Therapeutic Approaches to Treat Hypertrophic Scars
摘要
The purpose of this paper is to compare the similarities and differences between the types of hypertrophic scarring, a form of pathological scarring. Hypertrophic scarring is caused by abnormal wound healing after cutaneous trauma, and it can present in several ways due to the patient’s genetic predisposition. We will explore hypertrophic scars that are burn-related, keloids, and scleroderma. This paper will examine the extracellular matrix components, such as fibrillar proteins, non-fibrillar proteins, and glycosaminoglycans, and cellular components of the condition, to understand the key differences in expression among the types of hypertrophic scarring, as well as highlight some potential underlying factors for future research. Therapeutic solutions like pharmacotherapy, biomaterials, and invasive treatments are also compared in relation to each presentation type of hypertrophic scarring. This allows for greater understanding in the differences between preferred treatment options and for which type of pathological scarring each method should be implemented.
