Compassion-Focused Therapy in European Latin Cultures
摘要
Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) has gained popularity in Latin cultures in Europe, such as Spain, Italy, Portugal, and France, due to their shared values, such as the importance of family, interpersonal relationships, and the expression of feelings. These values facilitate the acceptance of therapy in these countries. However, there are differences in the implementation of CFT, especially in public health systems such as in Spain, which influences the perception and participation in treatment programs. Furthermore, guilt related to health problems is a relevant aspect to address in CFT. This therapy has been applied in various clinical settings, treating problems such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders, shame, and perfectionism, improving overall mental health. It has been also used in educational institutions to improve teacher well-being and reduce stress. CFT helps patients cultivate a more compassionate attitude toward themselves, reducing self-criticism and improving self-worth. Numerous studies have shown that it has a positive impact on reducing negative symptoms and increasing positive emotions.
