I finish this short journey into my rethinking of bioassessment by reflecting on its importance in a time when many freshwater ecosystems, and ecosystems in general, are in trouble. I don't pretend that Western science approaches are all that is needed, but rather that they should be complementary to other ways of understanding the effects of human activity on the natural world. I want to contribute to this important discussion rather than dominate it or be prescriptive about a particular approach.

摘要

I finish this short journey into my rethinking of bioassessment by reflecting on its importance in a time when many freshwater ecosystems, and ecosystems in general, are in trouble. I don't pretend that Western science approaches are all that is needed, but rather that they should be complementary to other ways of understanding the effects of human activity on the natural world. I want to contribute to this important discussion rather than dominate it or be prescriptive about a particular approach.
