This study explores the application of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) tools, such as SCISPACE and ChatGPT, in enhancing reading comprehension and addressing challenges like cognitive load, limited vocabulary, and reduced motivation. While previous research has highlighted the transformative potential of AI in education, there remains a significant gap in understanding how GAI specifically alleviates barriers to effective reading comprehension. Using a qualitative case study approach, this research evaluates SCISPACE’s summarization capabilities in academic texts and ChatGPT’s interactive learning features. The findings reveal that these tools effectively reduce cognitive load, provide instant feedback, and transform passive reading into interactive learning experiences, thereby enhancing user comprehension and engagement. However, challenges such as algorithmic biases and the oversimplification of complex content persist. This study underscores the transformative potential of GAI in education and emphasizes the need for further research to optimize these tools for diverse learning environments.
