Digital Transformation (DT) is focused on dramatically changing how organizations operate and deliver value to stakeholders. It is intended to connect organizations to technology providers, customers, suppliers, and sponsors. It goes beyond digitalization (modification of relatively simple organizational processes and tasks) to reconfiguring and rearranging an organization’s processes with the intent of enhancing value creation in enterprises. A digitally-transformed enterprise (DTE) is model-based, data-driven, digital engineering-enabled, and digitally engineered. A DTE stands to benefit from AI, and more specifically, Augmented Intelligence (the use of AI in a complementary or assistive role to humans). Augmented Intelligence is a means to enhance both the processes and artifacts produced by a DTE by exploiting human-AI collaboration. This paper presents how Augmented Intelligence can be exploited in realizing and operating a DTE. The paper concludes with a research agenda for enhancing the exploitation of Augmented Intelligence in realizing and operating a DTE.
