Exploring Different Views of Healthcare Sustainability

Different mental models of concepts used to engineer systems can lead to conflict due to the differences in stakeholder expectations. This paper compares two commonly used views of sustainabilitySustainability associated to the healthcareHealthcare domain. One perspective of sustainabilitySustainability in healthcareHealthcare is associated with implementation scienceImplementation science and typically addresses healthcareHealthcare interventions. The other focuses on a broader view, considering ideas such as the three pillars that encompass social, economic, as well as environmental factors. When working on health system related concerns, it is important to understand which perspective to use. The paper seeks to provide an understanding of the two views and discusses recommendations for those addressing sustainabilitySustainability concerns in healthcareHealthcare.
