Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) in Spain and Its Diffusion to the World
摘要
Since its origins in the late 1980s with the pioneering work of Muhe and Mouret, minimally invasive surgery (MIS) has evolved continuously. Aimed at reducing surgical trauma, minimizing patient discomfort, postoperative pain, shortening hospital stays, and facilitating the return to normal daily activities, MIS has been successfully applied across virtually all surgical fields—from benign conditions to oncological surgery. Evidence-based studies have consistently confirmed its advantages over traditional open surgery. Today, robotic surgery, led by DaVinci robot (Intuitive), supported by universal platforms, artificial intelligence integration, and augmented reality, is advancing rapidly toward safer, more precise, and highly effective procedures that benefit patients worldwide. Spanish minimally invasive surgery has played a significant role in Europe and beyond, thanks to its wide acceptance, high-quality development, strong educational impact some of the world’s leading training programs and courses , and top innovative surgeons, are based in Spain, and the field continues to progress for the well-being of patients.
