Beyond the Basics: Unravelling AI Education Policies and Practices in Asia–Pacific
摘要
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is integrating into our everyday lives at an alarming rate. Although AI has transformed learning, its pedagogical integration has encountered several challenges and ethical difficulties. This chapter explores the landscape of AI education in the Asia–Pacific region, highlighting influential models, challenges, and best practices across diverse Asia–Pacific countries such as China, Japan, South Korea, India, and Singapore. Despite promising advancements, a digital divide exists between urban and rural areas. Another issue is the absence of a standardised AI curriculum across diverse educational systems, underlining the need for cohesive frameworks that cover essential ideas, skills, and ethics related to AI. Comprehensive professional development programs are needed to equip teachers with the necessary technical and pedagogical skills. Further, transparent, fair, and responsible AI systems must address data privacy, algorithmic bias, and societal impact. Governments, educational institutions, and technology developers need to collaborate on ethical guidelines to ensure responsible AI use. This chapter also provides policy recommendations such as innovative education, entrepreneurial training, and adaptable policies to promote AI development and societal protection. Sustainable AI development requires trust among stakeholders and encouraging responsible business practices. By addressing these challenges and fostering collaboration among all stakeholders, the Asia–Pacific region can create an inclusive, equitable, and forward-looking AI education system, ensuring students are well-prepared for the AI-driven future. The comparative study reveals the complex methods followed by various nations to help policymakers, educators, and stakeholders navigate 21st-century AI education.
