This chapter offers a description of the grammar of Tunen and analyses its status and influence within oral legal traditions. The overview of the Tunen language draws on four key research works: Koelle (Polyglotta Africana; or a Comparative Vocabulary of Nearly Three Hundred Words and Phrases, in More Than One Hundred Distinct African Languages. Church Missionary House, 1854), Hoesemann (Ethnologisches aus Kamerun. Mitteilungen von Forschungs-reisenden und Gelehrten aus den Deutschen Schutzgebieten. Ernest Siegfried Mittler und Sohn, 1903), Dugast (Grammaire du Tùnɛn. Editions Klincksieck, 1971), and Mbongue (Macro-Approach of the Tunen Bible Translation: An Application of the Key Biblical Technical Termini. Peter Lang, 2005), along with contributions from numerous other scholars who have studied the grammar of Tunen. However, the aim of this chapter is not to give a detailed linguistic description of Tunen. Instead, it is positioned within the framework of applied linguistics, focusing on a general overview of fundamental concepts such as phonology, morphology, and syntax. This overview is intended to aid in the understanding of the customary court discourse of the Banen community, which is presented and analysed in Chap. 6 . For readers interested in a more in-depth exploration of Tunen’s grammatical structure, the cited research works serve as valuable resources.

摘要
