This chapter acts as a summation of the arguments developed through Predramatic Theatre. It argues for the originality, subtlety, complexity, and self-reflexiveness of predramatic modes of performance, and their fundamental distinction from later drama designed for theatres. It summarises the echoes and foreshadowings of the postdramatic in the pre-theatrical, and the ways in which the uses of space, relationship to spectators, and movement of performers and audiences in the earlier drama offered models to think about the performance styles of postmodernity, and vice versa. By revisiting ideas explored earlier in the book, such as the concept of kinethics, and the idea of a distinct Christian pedestrianism, the chapter suggests how predramatic performance allowed spectators to approach ideas both ribald and numinous through a fundamental attention to the embodied nature of both performer and witness.
